Frequently Asked Question's

How much does the Florida permit cost?
$117.00 to the state of Florida. This permit is valid for 7 years from the date of issue. The permit itself works out to be about $16.72 per year.

How long does the class take?
About 6 hours. It can be completed in a day. We offer weekday and weekend classes.

How much does the class cost?
$100.00 for pre-registered students. $125 at the door, if there is space available.

Do you offer evening classes?
Yes. Evening classes often take place on two separate evenings. One evening is the classroom portion; the other evening is range time.

Can I bring a Friend or Family Member that does not want a permit, but wants to just listen to the lecture?
NO! Think of a lecture as a concert. You cannot take an additional person to a concert without buying a ticket. You are paying for a seat in the class to receive the intellectual property conveyed by word of mouth from the instructor. If a person already has the Florida permit, they may be able to purchase a seat at a reduced rate. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO GRADUATES OF GLJ's CLASS, They will be admitted depending on availability of space.

Can I video or record the class?
No. For the privacy of all students and the manner in which the class is taught, no voice, video or other form of electronic recording is allowed.

I have several friends that want to take the course with me, but I do not live near your class locations. Will you come to my area and teach?
Yes. In fact, there are many people that take the class in that manner. We have everything for the class and will come to you! We require a minimum number of students due to expenses and travel time. If you have a place to hold the class and a place to shoot seven yards safely, we can work out the other details.

I work second shift or am retired, my weekends are valuable to me, do you offer morning classes?
Yes. Contact me for information. We may be holding one this week.

Are you are telling me that one permit from Florida is honored in all those states?
Yes. However, there are some restrictions that change from state to state. We cover a lot of those in the class. For example, you can’t carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol in Tennessee, but you can in Kentucky as long as you don’t sit at the bar or drink.

I thought more states accept Florida’s CCW Permit. Why aren’t Colorado, Michigan, Kansas and West Virginia listed?
They do accept Florida CCW Permits that are held by persons who have a Florida residence. The class we teach is for the Florida Non-resident Permit. The permit will list your home address. If you move to Florida your address would change and you would gain these four states.

Can I carry In Illinois?
No. But, you can carry in a lot of states when you travel. Remember the
states that are respectful of your Second Amendment rights when you
spend your vacation dollars.

Do I have to carry the pistol I used to qualify?
No. You may carry any legal handgun.

In addition to your class, what else do I have to do?
Simply have your fingerprints taken by local law enforcement. We fill out the card during class and all you have to do is take it to a local Police Department or Sheriff's office and they will fingerprint you. Most officers are very supportive.

How long after I send off the application will I have to wait for my permit?
Up to 90 days from when they receive a complete application. Often it is around 90 days. Do not contact the issuing office until 90 days have passed.

Do not drink alcohol or take any medications that alter judgement or motor skills for at least 12 hours before attending the class.
